NICE guidance – How employers can encourage and support physically active workplaces

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has published a Quality Standard (guidance) on “Physical activity: encouraging activity in the community”, with a specific quality statement on workplaces.

It advocates for employers to encourage increased physical activity levels among their staff as a way to increase staff satisfaction, reduce absenteeism and improve the workplace environment.

The guidance also lists a range of potential physical activity programmes that employers can implement, from encouraging employees to walk or cycle to external meetings, to implementing incentive schemes, such as subsidised gym memberships.

Some Business Healthy member organisations have shared their experiences and best practice with getting their workforce more physically active. Have a read here.
