Smoke free play areas in the City of London

The City of London Corporation are asking people to ‘stub it out’ as three of our parks with children’s play areas become smoke free. This is a joint initiative between Public Health and Open Spaces which recognises that children should have the right to a smoke free environment whether they are at home, in cars or out and about enjoying leisure time.
Signs will be placed in Tower Hill gardens, West Smithfield Rotunda Gardens and Portsoken Street Garden children’s play areas asking smokers not to smoke in these areas. It is intended that having smoke free play areas will de-normalised smoking for children and reduce their risk of exposure to second hand smoke which will in turn make it less likely that young people will start smoking in the first place.
The City Corporation is confident that people will take notice and do the right thing by not smoking as it is in the best interests of children and young people.
